What's interesting about making and despatching plates from Ireland to the UK?

That's to avoid a potential 2.5K STG fine under UK rules.

Aye, they moved production here a few years back IIRC.

The funny thing about the original set of rules was that it applied to England and Wales only. So everyone could just go on ebay and buy plates from Northern Ireland or Scotland without having to produce a folder full of paperwork.

Took another four years before the law in Scotland and NI came into line.

Doesn't stop anyone else sending them in from anywhere outside the UK though.

Now I can appreciate what the UK Gov was trying to do, but they really were wasting their time on this one.

So €35 it has good as it gets for plate, I remember the last time I got some made I thought the price was fairly high. I am a cheap steack. :)

If you want correct period plates make sure you get plates with large digits
    (i.e. not the modern-style (crappy) French-style plates).

If the car was made/first registered after 1969, another correct-period option
would be a red rear plate and a white front plate.

Aaah, so the UK does 'silly rules' also  I remember something about the plate maker having to put their logo on the plate - totally silly, when an embossed code no. does in other countries

No, they can't put their logo on the plate. They have to put their name on the plate and postcode. Barely visible.

The idea is fine, stop any Tom, Dick or Harry walking in to a shop for some fake plates, but then they just nick plates from a similar car. So going on from that is a plate that destructs on removal, etc., etc., etc.

Anyway, it keeps the coffers full from the FPNs that can be dished out at £100 a throw.

Plates on this 'Morstin' pick up look good

Look like vintage style UK plates (smaller letters than IRL plates of the time )

So many fine restoration jobs are marred by putting on plates with the narrow letters and numerals or wrong colours. Pet peeve.
