Audi A6 3.0 TDI Quattro Diff

    Hey all,

Anyone know of anywhere that overhauls Diffs?

The rear one on the wife's car (2006, 3.0V6, Manual, BMK Engine) is acting up & Audi told us to write off the car rather than get it fixed.

The way things are I'd rather keep the car and repair the Diff than scrap it and have to buy again, venturing into the unknown.

That sounds ridiculous: scrapping a 7 year old car over a diff? I'd think any good transmission specialist should be able to repair it.

I'm sure it is repairable, alternatively you could get a secondhand one. They aren't usually troublesome. What are the symptoms?

There's a slap from the back when tight cornering or going uphill

That's BS. A new diff couldn't cost any more than €2k. So they're saying a 06 A6 3.0 TDi Quattro is worth less than €2k!!

I would imagine reconditioning or used replacement parts are very possible. You may have to go to the UK for a used part, but I'm sure you'll get one for a fraction of the new price.

You must have had a fluid leak for it to fail. They are generally pretty bullet proof. After 202k miles on my allroad both diffs are perfect. The only problem was a leak in the transfer box which needed a replacement seal and top up. I check for leaks every few months as replacing a diff or transfer fox is not something I want to contemplate.

As above, they are usually trouble-free. If it was my car I would source a secondhand replacement, the risk with a secondhand diff should be quite low and the cost savings will be huge vs buying new.
