    Hi Folks,

Would like to use magic eyes to control the RF2 out feed from a Sky box to two seperate rooms. I have done a search but found links to old topics but no recent recommendations. So has anybody the name of a good product for this and where it can be bought?

    Any help much appreciated.

The Global F140 and 180 are good, I've only had one fail in many years. They use F connectors which are less lossy that standard coax connectors.

Would highly recommend the global amps that Tony did, never had any problems, if you need more than 8 outputs the global F280 is a 16 way amp.

However for the F180 or F280 you will need a power source to plug the amp into. The f140 will get its power from the sky box directly.

    Excellent Folks,

    Much appreciated for the advice.

Will a Y connector similar to below work on these distribution amp to allow input from Sky RF2 out and a TV Aerial?

I currently have a FRINGE 8 Way Distribution Amplifier and it does not support sky RF2 out. It supplies terrestrial TV to the whole house but I would like to add the Sky feed to this

No You would need to put the terrestrial feed into the input on the sky box and then feed a bi-directional amp. Or you could use a power pass f-splitter if you only want to feed one room but you would be better off changing the lot and doing as suggested for reliability.

Your amplifier doesn't support the 'magic eye' powering & signal path. It will distribute the Sky box RF output to all connected tvs: you just won't have remote control of the Sky box.

You would need to combine the aerial & Sky box RF signal, either by routing the main aerial feed through the Sky box or, taking a cable from RF output to the distribution amp. location & using a combiner there (not the kind pictured in your post).

Bodge method might work but not guaranteed.

Using a proper combiner to combine the aerial & Sky RF signals like this is not a 'bodge', even if it's not 100% guaranteed satisfactory, especially WRT the return signal from the eyes.

It's certainly worth trying if you can't easily get the aerial feed to the Sky box.

Can you recommend a combiner as I tried the coax Y combiner and the highlighted light in the below picture switches off when aerial and RF out are connected (Even with power out switched off on the sky box) and I lose my aerial feed.

There must be a masthead amplifier fitted near your aerial, getting its power from the distribution amp.

You need a combiner/splitter that passes DC power. Use something like this one, that only passes DC on 1 leg.

No masthead amplifier fitted to the aerial. I have this aerial fed straight into the UHF in on the FRINGE 8 Way Distribution Amplifier and then out to multiple TV's. I live in North County Dublin and receive Saorview and Freeview from NI presently.

So, the Sky box worked through your 'Y combiner' & distribution amp: it was just the aerial signal that failed?

Post a pic of the actual combiner you are using.

    One of these cheap ones.

If the distribution amp. is still working & the Sky signal is getting through then, it would seem the signal from the aerial is not strong enough to cope with the losses in the combiner.

Those are very lossy, an F type that Peter suggests would be much better.
