Ok so I bought an item on ebay a month ago. Paid straight away, got item a few weeks later after a shipping problem, but item was perfect and left feedback, transaction finished.

However now the seller has opened a case wanting to cancel the transaction? And he left a message saying it would really help him. Why the hell would he want to do this?? How would it help him? Seems very strange.

I have receipts from paypal and everything so I assume he can't try to get more money off me or something?

He's obviously a loon, just ignore him.

    That's what I was thinking

If he opens a cancel transaction case and you agree to it, then he will get his Final Value Fee credited back to his account by eBay. It's a policy breach and eBay take it very seriously... so I'd report him to eBay tbh because he's probably ripping them off, or else just ignore him because he's a dirtbag.

Oh really? That's fairly scabby of him! The fee can't be that much can it?!

If the transaction was cancelled by him, can't you open a dispute saying you never got the item? If so it's be weird that he's leaving himself open like that.

Depending on how much the item was, it can get pricey enough.

Anyone can open an Item Not Received case whenever they feel like it, after a certain amount of time has passed.

    Done Deal ~ Contract completed.....

    tell him to get lost.

Could the item be worth a lot more than he was selling it for by any chance...
gold/jewellery!! even if so .....his loss.

It was a graphics card for €60, and was about the same price as the other ones for sale

What are the chances he meant to cancel a different transaction. ?

He could have loads of transactions in his account and just selected the wrong one.

What is the current status of the open case ?

What is the current status of the open case ?

Urgently awaiting my response or I will get a feedback strike or something, I just realised he opened the case as an unpaid item, but he sent the message saying please accept and that it will be doing him a favour! So I'm afraid if I just ignore it, it will damage my reputation or something :(

It was surely the right one, he only has 8 other items for sale atm which are not graphics are related at all

Got me thinking as well that he may have had more than one graphics for sale on ebay , and as they were now out of stock , he wanted to cancel his listing .

However this is not the case here.

Looks like eBay are waiting for you to respond to his open case , so you best prove that you paid for item .

Check the listing and see have the icons been marked ' paid ' and dispatched '

It's marked as paid but not as dispatched

If you paid by PayPal, then reply with the transaction ID with your response, if not, then need to find another way or state you received it. Definitely don't ignore it, as you could get a strike on your record.
    This is on ebay.co.uk - http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/buy/report-trading.html.

It is true that the seller is trying to claw back his eBay fees.
