Am in the middle of servicing the car, mk4 fiesta, 1.25 zetec.

Draining the oil thru the dipstick, cause the sump plug is fecked. Have removed 2.75 litres of oil or there abouts, but capacity for this engine is 4.25.

    Any suggestions?

not noticibly burning or leaking oil by the way

What are you using to extract it? Did you dip the oil to give you an idea of what's in it beforehand? 2.75 litres sounds as though there's more in there.

Proper extractors should get every last drop out so unless it was really really low before there will be quite a bit more in there somewhere.
Anything on the dipstick at all?
Is the oil removed still clean (not mixed with dirt in a oil pan)?

Actually, isnt there like 3.5 litres in these?

Put your hand on the sump where you expect the probe to touch, get someone to tap the probe up and down , can you feel it?

Measure the distance the probe is in, does it correlate to reaching the sump bottom?

Rotate the probe as your inserting it, it helps get it past obstructions

You can go too far, as in the probe starts coming back up !!!

Thanks for the replies lads. After various probes, turns and twists I managed to take out about 3 litres.

I found the issue when I changed the spark plug. Oil sitting around the fourth plug, and as I have been less than fastidious with oil checks, and the car is overdue the service, I reckon the rings are leaking a little and I've burned off a litre or so over the last 15. Months
