Rubbish, freesat operates from satellite. 3g/4g are mobile terrestrial networks that have no effect on satellite reception.

You should post this over in the Talk to UPC forum and see what the reps there have to say - http://www.boards.ie/ttforum/1546

Almost as good as the guy who said there wasn't enough satellite signal for everybody in Rosslare, Co. Wexford

UPC have just send me a p/m apologising for misinforming me '.So are they admitting that to hold customers or get new customers they are using scare tatics .This company have disgusted me with deliberate lying and i am very disappointed. And when possible i will be going elsewhere in future

To be honest Freeview and Saorview channels do not compare to UPC or SKY channels, you will be dissapointed.

But 92% of viewing time of Sky & UPC customers is of free channels.

Only those wanting Sky Sports will be truly disappointed. The money saved buys a lot of boxed sets too.

So 2% to 20% of the time you might be disappointed (8% on average) depending on interests.

and the nat geo and the discovery channels have really gone down hill in recent years

which i am getting free .i cant wait to get out of upc contract as far as i am concerned they are only pick pockets .Just to add this new television is a 40ins and it only cost €390 it will pay for it self in no time

    Do you really need any?

It's fairly obvious that people watch RTE/TV3/BBC/ITV/CH4/E4 most of the time.

There are a few minor channels on UPC that are not on FTA/Saorview which you would lose out on. You also gain on some other minor channels.

The key difference is subscription sport which is only avaialble via Sky/UPC

Very pissed off with UPC at the moment, do not believe a word they say!

Downgraded my Horizon package on Monday, and somehow, they screwed up the my box

Have had no signal since Monday, been on the phone nearly every day since, was promised they would call back, but still has not been sorted.

OP, I think I shall be going like you with FTA

But may also use Netflix with my PS3

Well yes I do, I had Freeview for over a week while waiting for UPC to come out and I could barely find anything decent to watch, while I was lucky that my sons favourite channel was Freeview but he would ask for other that arent there, also I missed the likes of sky sports news etc

Sorry but my curiosity has got the better of me and I would like to ask, what other stations do you watch, besides Sky Sports News, that are not available for free on satellite eg BBC and terrestrial eg RTE please?

    Regards

UPC have lied to me so many many times it is unreal.

One time they told me that the price had gone up because the Government had increased VAT at the last budget - needless to say, the Government had not increased VAT in the budget in question.

    Sky News is free
Lots and Lots of repeats on The Hitler channel (there is OTHER history, but not much on the History Channel), the Mythbreakers channel and the Clarkson channel.

Nielsen "TAM" in Ireland and BARB in UK. Well Documented. No-one in the Industry disputes it. It may vary a bit from year to year.

When I terminated my contract in UPC my ex boss told me freesat wouldnt last a few more months that was now over 5 yrs ago and since then the amount of free channels have quadrupled and its only a matter of time before more join suit......and the hindsight is he now lost his contract with UPC....scare tactics like this shouldnt be allowed.

Yes but if the program is **** its still **** if it looks better. Surely the content is the most important.hd is a nice bonus but it woupdnt have me dropping a whole heap of channels I watch in sd so I can watch something ive no interest in in hd.

The point being though , you already had those channels and didnt switch to freesat, so why is the picture being better on some channels that you dodnt seem to value enough to switch suddenly a deal breaker? Will you be watching them purely because they are in hd?

the channels i wont get i.e. history national geography and the other rubbish are not worth looking at 'so why should i pay u.p.c. over €1 or 2 thousand per annum for this rubbish .I and people like have better things to do with our money .as far as i am concerned upc are only pick-pockets and if you are foolish enough then pay them .They are losing many many customers to free sat and with many more channels being added monthly they are going to lose many more:)

Am a FreeSat/SaorView viewer, when I bother to watch Broadcast TV, if it was not for broadband, I would have a SKY or UPC contract.

Navi-x is a software that run in xbmc which is a media player. Navi x host live streams of your favorite sky channels that people stream & you can watch for free if you have a good internet speed. Check out youtube on how to set it up on your pc or buy a xmbc box to conect to your tv.

Why did you subscribe in the first place?

Why were you foolish enough to pay them?

Without question, most people who go to subscription services do so for premium football, the latest movies and documentaries.
My guess is that a lot of present migration is down to economics; I doubt if more free channels make that much difference to people choosing to leave UPC or Sky, if the FTA ones that were already there weren't attractive enough to prevent subscription in the first place.
And with the FTA channels also available on pay platform EPGs it is the best of both worlds for those that are, how did you put it: foolish enough to subscribe.

Ah so it's not so much about free tv versus subscription tv but some gripe you have with UPC in particular? Is Sky Sports via Sky any cheaper than UPC? I doubt there's much in it...

But Freesat has been as good as it is now for a few years - has it taken you this long to stop being, how did you put it, oh yeah - foolish?

And, as pointed it, your issue is not about Freesat, it's about UPC. Other sales reps (including at Sky whom you appear to think is better than UPC) will also make outlandish claims to sell you goods. In dozens of sales fields I've had reps tell me all sorts. I would never let it put me off something I wanted.

Nice to see intelligent debate lives and breathes!

I wonder why they thought they'd get away with telling you 4G would interfere with Freesat :D

When you come onto a forum and call many of the people on board "foolish" (what exactly do you class as bullying  ) - as if they are incapable of making up their own minds on the matter - and admit that you've been foolish too, can you be surprised that you get questioned on it?

It's a simple question; name the rapid improvements made in the Freesat service that has convinced you to drop subscription TV? Losing the head is a strange reaction to be honest.

Not sure how I missed this thread for so long - was going to move it to Cable but TBH there is so much wrong with it that closing it seems the best thing to do.

tonymelia gets a warning for the abuse, homing bird for discussing circumventing regional restrictions and tallaghtmick for his responses, I don't care if they were tongue in cheek.
