Can't contact registry office in Dublin!

Hi, we'd like to get married in the registry office in Grand Canal Street in Dublin.

Their website (http://hse.ie/eng/services/list/1/bdm/contactus/) says to ring (01) 8638200, but my fiancee rang yesterday. She got hold music, followed by "please wait, we are transferring you to an operator", followed by hold music and the message again, over and over for a solid hour. I just rang them this morning and got the exact same thing.

Does anybody know if that number is still in use, or if there's some other way of contacting them?

    Thanks!

    Antilles

Keep trying, you will get through to the operator who will take your details and someone will call you back in a day or so. Thet do seem to be quite busy. It is the right number, rang them recently myself for my marraige appointment

    ^ good to hear.

I contacted them twice in one week not so long ago and was answered quickly on both occasions. Maybe they were just busy when you called? Anyway glad you got through in the end.

Ah I remember them. Every time I rang it seemed like they were closed or somebody was on a break and would have to call me back. It appears that they only answer the phones between 10:30 and 12. And then again from 14:00 to 15:30. Gotta love the civil service.

Do you need two witnesses - is there any way of getting away with that. We want no-one to know, just not our thing.

Nope! For the marriage to be legal, it must have two witnesses. Grab 'em off the street if you have to...
