Ok long story but as its late and my pain killers are finally starting to kick in gonna try condense it a bit. Went to smiles dental approx 20months ago about my wisdom teeth. Was told one needed to be removed surgically which isnt covered by medical card and would cost 350 or I could be referred to dental hospital where it would be done for free under medical card. Asked for the referral. 14 months later went to the dental hospital for an appointment which turned out to be the same exam I had gotten 14months previously and was told that yes one is very bad and needs to be surgically removed ASAP. was told the list is approx 6 months but that Id also be put on an urgent cancellations list (ie in they got any cancellations id be on the list to get called for those appointments) 6 months later and Im here in MASSIVE pain for around three weeks now. Contacted the dental hospital and was told the wait list is 7-8 months and to expect an appointment in the next two months. But in so much pain that I need something done now. so contacted my own dentist again and basically they said you need the tooth out we cant do anything for ya use you want to pay for us to do the surgical removal, which I still cant afford.. Im in sooo much pain but am totally broke. I dont know what to do. I am my wits end here.. Advice please!!!

Temporarily, you can be seen by your medical card dentist or GP for a prescription for antibiotics if it is an infection or pain killers if it is a toothache.

You can then wait for the dental hospital in the meantime.

No good to you now but I usually advise patients not to rely on the public system and save a bit towards the treatment themselves if they need to have it done and cant access the public system in time....
