remote desktop connection questions

    Hi,
This is my first time to use this program. I have decided to retire my htpc and use a higher powered laptop instead. However, there are some programs on the laptop that i use (accounts software etc). I'm wondering can I use remote desktop connection (or any other connection software) to access these programs from another computer (on the same network) WITHOUT interupting anyone that's currently using the new htpc laptop. I wonder is it just a case of creating a new admin user on the htpc laptop (with password) and then launching remote desktop connection.
I tried logging on from another laptop using the same credentials as the current htpc laptop user but the screen went blank on the htpc laptop when the connection was made and appeared on this laptop.

Are you using windows remote desktop?
Try TNC tight or teamviewer as the remote connection software.

Windows 7 by default (If that is the OS you are using) only allows one RDP session, but you could try THIS INFO
