As the title says. How do you feel you have benefited from training a martial art?

Edit: sure.. Just a few off the top of my head:
    -good form of exercise
-Good outlet for any stress or bad emotions I have (not taking it out on people obviously, just good to let it out)
-Increased self confidence through knowing you're learning a useful skill (detrimental if you start to get cocky though)
    - You feel good learning and getting good at something!

I broke a rib last week and have been getting sympathy love. does that count? :-)
besides that it's a huge confidence thing for me. plus I was always terrible at team sports and it was nice to be able to achieve something in martial arts.

It's fun. That's it. But it's the best reason I can think of for doing it.

Assuming you are training a martial art where you are sparring with full resistance:

Having your ego checked regularly and learning to lose, this can be applied in the real world too!
My diet and training regimen outsde of the martial arts is strict so I can keep my body sharp to perform the techniques, this benefits my jiu jitsu yeah, but overall health moreso.

I've been doing it since the early 80's and it has been a huge help in my life, from managing stress, maintaining mental focus, building confidence, maintaining physical fitness & health (but I must admit my body hurts quite a lot these days . . . and not always in a "good way"). I wish it was more effective at weight control though.

On the downside it consumes a ridiculous amount of my time, which takes me away from family & other friends.

My own. I learned just how effective a knee to the rib is that week. Back training now tho so its all good. Although herself ran out of sympathy.. I might have linked it a bit at home!

Here's a nice testimony from some practitioners.

Honestly, some days, besides my family and closest friends martial arts are the only things that seem to have a value in my life. I sacrifice so much for training and I would hate for it too be any other way. It's not a word of a lie when I say that I'm not too sure if I would find my life to be worth living without martial arts...... so yeah I guess they give me a reason to live....God that sounds terrible! :p

    Stress relief
Buzz of entering the ring prepares you to handling most daunting situations you face in life.
Having trained firstly in boxing at a young age (9-13) I never lost the discipline for training and most training ranging from rugby, kickboxing, to crossfit since seem fairly handy.
