    Hi,

This is basically a question to anyone who has qualified in IATI in the last two years as they have changed the requirement since 2011.

If you're in a role fairly limited in scope, eg AP/credit control what are the odds of your work experience diary being deemed sufficient, they have a lot of requirements such as completing I/S, SOFP & Statement of Cashflow which are definitely outside the remit of most accounting technicians so how do people get around this?

    Thanks,
    MM

    Hi,

Accounts Payable/Receivable and credit control won't be enough for your record of work experience.

You need some experience in Taxation: Payroll, VAT , RCT, CT (not all of them of course, 2 would be enough)

You need to show that you understand double entry bookkeeping, such as posting journals to the general ledger (accruals, prepayments, depreciation).

You could also be involved in the preparation of the year end audit file, in the preparation of budgets, maybe a bit of budget analysis.

You could also be involved in bank reconciliations, filing returns on ROS, etc...

These are all just examples, you don't need 2 years of everything, you could have 2 years in accounts payable/receivable, 6 months bank recs, 3 months Payroll and so on. Once they can see an improvement in the tasks/responsibilities you have take on, your membership will be approved.

You could show the actual record of work experience to your employer and ask them if they could help you to match the requirements.
