...does anyone know if there is anything about where these are positioned, vis-à-vis private versus public property/road, for the purposes of catching out motorists ?

....what I mean is, there is one location near my house where he parks up. It is not a hard shoulder, it is not part of the public road. It is off the road on a persons private property, but photographs the public road from there. The question I have is, is there anything in regulations about they must be located ON or IN a public space for their work to be valid ?

Now, I know the short answer is to run them from it, and the owner is away atmo, so I will be seeing if that can be done when owner comes back.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Or just obey the rules of the road and pay your motor tax.

AFAIK they can't just park in any old spot, they are set out in advance.

If it was on private land then the landowner would need to give permission, perhaps go talk to them about it.

If that was the case I would stick up a tiny sign someplace saying:

"Using camera equipment on this land constitutes agreement to a 10% surcharge on all revenue generated from taking pictures" ::pac::pac::pac::pac::pac::pac:

So they can park in your driveway if you leave the gates open/unlocked?

    Ironic username is ironic!

OP: If I had one, I'd probably park my own van behind them and walk away :)

This really has zero relevance to this thread.

Technically, yes. It could be considered trespassing.

From what I know the landowner put a stop to GoSafe using this area for their work.

A car dealer near my home place got so tired of teh speed vans parking at the entrance to his place that he got his own white van and used to park it there so they couldn't use it. They moved up the road a bit but anytime he sees them out he puts out his own van in the hope that people see his van and have slowed down before they get to the actual Speed van.

A bit like that spot between Loughrea and Ballinasloe on the old Galway Dublin road where it goes from a wide 100kph stratch down to 80kph narrow zindy bit, the Gards used to park in front of an abandoned house just after the limit dropped to 80 and catch people who hadn't slowed down, locals took to dropping big boulders in front of the abandoned house so they can't park there.

The vans were generally pulled in behind the bush so if heading toward the M1 you'd only see the van just as you passed the bush.

It was a nice money maker for them.

No they don't. They don't have access to private property without the (implied) consent of the owner(s). As mentioned above, by me leaving my gates open doesn't mean you can just come in.

In rural areas, the space outside your house is surfaced to allow for parking, to facilitate 'habitual enjoyment' of your home by allowing your visitors to park without interfering with traffic. It's a condition of your planning permission that you do this. You have to provide it, surface it and provide that it does not drain on to the public road. It is YOUR private space, and remains part of your property folio in the Land Registry. Proof ? When the CoCo do the usual pothole filling or tar & chipping, they stop on the line of that space - they will not cross into it (which is worth remembering for 'Irish Water' fans........... ;)

None of this makes it a public space, and if someone parks there whom you don't want, you can go out and get them to move on.

Gosafe van was parking outside a local publicans private house and catching people. Publican was losing trade as it was rumoured that he was taking cash off them etc.
Gardai refused to help and gosafe guy rold him to f off. In the end, he got 2 vans and blocked him in. That put an end to it.

It'd almost be worth buying two "junk" transits that you could leave there permanently... unless they DID pay him to move them :P
