Instantaneous hot water boiler - leave on?

My new apartment has a glow worm boiler that has an "eco" setting on the water dial. This seems to allow hot water as soon as you turn the tap, while the radiators seem to be controlled via a 'Siemens RWB27' control box on the wall.

Are these types of boilers designed to be left at the "on" setting all the time, so you can have hot water without having to go in and turn on/off the boiler, while the rads can come on at timed intervals via the box? Or is this approach wasteful?

Yes that's pretty much the best way. Combi boilers have an "Eco" mode that basically times the last time it received a demand for hot water via its pressure switch. It then times for 30 minutes & cycles the boiler keeping a small volume of water hot for that time so that if you draw more hot water within that 30 minutes you get it quicker. If no demand within that 30 minutes, the boiler goes to the off position until it receives another HW demand & the process begins again.

The 30 minutes can be changed to a lesser time if you wish or you can switch off the Eco mode.
