I dont know if this has been mentioned before, I did a very quick search and did not see it.

Was talking to Sky yesterday and have been told that they will be launching their Fibre broadband in April.

Guy on the phone said that we might see Pierce Brosnan "All over the bloody place again"

They have people stuck in 12 months contracts, I reckon alot of contracts expire around then.SKY are in no rush until contacts start to expire then lock you into another 12 months.

Am paying them a tenner a month currently on their launch trial..

.. but not staying with them past my contract.

They're grand for a tenner a month, but when they push it up to €45 - €50.. I'll be heading to Eircom.

Why Eircom ? I'm with Vodafone at home atm for phone/bb paying in around €50 every month, sky have offered me anytime local & national calls with bb for €37.50 a month. I'm considering switching, Eircom don't seem to be any cheaper either.

I was with Vodafone before Sky and never had a problem with them tbh..

.. but a tenner a month for a year was too good to pass up.

I'll go with Vodafone if they can offer me fibre.

Do bear in mind if you consider switching from Vodafone to Sky - my connection has not been as stable with Sky as it was with Vodafone (and this is after hours of fiddling with the Sky Hub, onto technical support and even getting a second Sky Hub).. and hence why I'm switching after 12 month contract is up.

I see ...... fibre optic is not and will not be available to me for god knows how long (Rural Galway) so do you think my BB speeds/consistency could get worse than they already are with Vodafone ? Currently on an old 3mb package but never get anymore than 1.7mb down and .4mb upload

If it was me, I wouldn't risk it to be honest..

.. my speed has gotten stable lately at 4MB's (all my line currently supports).. but was getting constant speed fluctuations from 0.2MB - 2.8MB at the start (the higher end is rarer).

If I wasn't paying a tenner a month, I'd have left a long time ago.

I rang yesterday to query when we were out of contract and asked about fibre. The rep said "ah I dunno, but it will be shortly, prob January" He did say that staff were given the fibre packages to trial out and thats ongoing at the moment but tbh I'd take the whole thing with a pinch of salt...

I'm currently paying €10 a month, but it will rise to whatever they're charging their customers now at the start of February as that'll be 12 months since I joined.

I don't know whether to jump ship to Vodafone than or stick to Sky until April when they are supposedly launching FTTC.

Just wondering about people being charged a fee for cancelling the broadband contract as I rang yesterday and the guy told me there was no charge as there only rolling it out so if it wasn't up to peoples standards (something along those lines) it was ok to cancel free of charge has anyone else being told this
I wouldn't have paid it anyway it's all under a fake name but I want to keep the tv package and lose the broadband

What do you mean under a fake name? Thats not allowed surely.
As far as I know they charge €40 × Whatever is left in the contract.
    So 6 months left = €40 × 6

I ordered it online they don't ask you for proof of who you are or anything
I didn't have to sign any paperwork either, the bank account is mine but the account holder is a made up name and d.o.b it's that easy
It was the same when I got digi web broadband in I orderd over the phone no paper work or anything
It beats being tied into contracts especially when the product your paying for can at some stage be gotten cheaper and much better else where
you just cancel the direct debit and that's the end of that then return the letters to sender unopened

How did your bank apply a direct debit to your account without a signed mandate?

Iv no idea how that side of things works I'm sure other people who signed up online can verify that they didn't sign one either
It's something got to do with distant selling I think, I remember telling digi web they could have there equipment back when I canceled the direct debit and they said I had to pay a fee
    I had said sure I didn't sign a thing,
they responded with the distant selling act that a signature wasn't needed
so I told them to go ahead and send me the bill which came addressed to the fake name from a debt collection company which was returned with tenant doesn't live here anymore, that was the last I heard from them on that

Iv just signed up to Eircom for broadband under a fake name, they did ask for an i.d number which I randomly generated and they just asked for bank details and the order went through with no issues That an engineer is due Monday to install it

It's a great little loophole if you don't want to get into lengthy contracts which turn out to be a big mistake with the service being useless or you could be getting better service for less money when a new offer opens up with a different company

I think this would probably be viewed by a court as fraud.

Also, if you're paying by direct debit, you don't have any real ability to prevent the provider from reaching into your account and taking as much as they want, whenever they want. At least until SEPA is fully in place next year.

Cancelled Sky back around July/August. Was told at the time there may be a cancellation fee of €10 x my months remaining on my contract. I was on the Sky trial at the time.

Went ahead and cancelled anyway to sign up for FTTC. Got my final bill from Sky and was never charged any penalty or remainder of my contract.

I want to find out about Cancellation and how much it'd cost.
