    I'd love some guidance on what is best for me to look at to get the following:

    * Remote control that will work similar to sky (i.e. flick to see whats on other channels without changing channel or missing out whats currently playing.) Also, would like to be able to flick through saorview and free to air channels without changing input on tv.
    * Ability to record while watching another channel and setup series link (can do this manually, but need to be able to record same time each week for 2 months, etc.)
    * Possibly ability to watch movies from hard drive on pc. (not essential as have little media box H1055 that I can connect usb hard drive to to play via hdmi on tv.)

    What I currently have at my disposal.
    * Decent PC connected via hdmi to tv. I can watch the pc on tv, but have no method to control the screen other than sound. (i.e. no wireless mouse or keyboard).
    * Xbox 360 with a 250gb hard drive, but don't have xbox live.
    * Satellite dish cable.
    * Normal aerial cable.
    * TV that does show saorview channels - although obviously on a different input. Would like to be able to watch saorview/free to air channels without having to change input on tv. (but if needs must, this can work - however, need to be able to record saorview channels).
    * Sky+ HD box.

    We do have an ariva150 in the bedroom which is great, but only used for watching not recording. While I like this device, I don't like the fact that to see whats on other channels I have to change channel, and also not great at viewing whats on later.

    Any guidance on where I should start looking would be greatly appreciated, as I'm at a loss as to what I really need to connect the above and make a good media centre/entertainment viewing centre!

    You should give windows media centre a try. If the pc is windows 7, you should have this already installed. By adding a TV card and remote you will have dtt and satellite on one EPG, can easily set up series link, sky go functionality and view EPG without changing channels. Adding media browser will give an impressive way to browse through any movies you have on the PC. If you like it you can build a dedicated htpc later, and move the TV card into it. A browser through this and the PC building forum will give you a lot of info.

    Thanks for that. It does have media centre, and i've just downloaded media portal, so was taking a brief look at that. I found a remote last night Mele f10 pro, that I think should work, as it'll control the pc. My biggest thing was controlling pc from couch!

    Will look up the tv card bit.
