Hi folks, i have an inlet manifold off vw passat, 1.9 tdi , neads to be cleaned. it is around 48 hrs soaking in petrol, but me thinks thats not really helps.

Anyone have an idea, how to clean it from inside. ? Maybe point where some machine shop does for reasonable price ?

I just rang one, but they want 50 plus vat for that job. I think thats bit expensive.

    Thanks

Hot power washer will do a nice job! Tried and tested

And use some TFR cleaner before hand

As xpro said, and a flexi cylindrical brush. Scrub the hell out of it :)

yea , thanks guys. after it was soaked for 48 hours, i looked in to it, and seems to be, all that gunk kind of flake off... so cleaned as much possible, even took cloth through all holes, brushed off as much i could, then went to self service car wash, and with hot water with foam and high pressure washed out. looks pretty good. thanks.

didnt risk do this , wonder would that damage aluminum cast or no ???

The danger with heat is that it can mess up the metallurgy of the aluminium and make it softer. This can lead to stripped threads and warping.

Any ideas how to clean the intake ports as well? That terraclean deal here a few months ago might do the job iirc??
To clean my manifold i used g101 and an old bottle brush. Worked a charm.

Is this something needs to be done on a regular basis, cleaning the manifold?
