Driver distance as an indicator of iron distances

    I'm going to try and phrase this so as to avoid the usual driving distance discussion... :rolleyes: or maybe this is a stupid question and deserves that response

    Allowing for loft variations amongst the clubs, if you hit your driver X distance should you be hitting your different irons a distance that is some function of X? And if you don't does that mean there's something that you should be looking at in terms of your iron play?

    Or is just the case that drivers are so forgiving that a reasonable connection will have great results?

    I have the opposite experience - on average i hit my driver slightly shorter than most, but am at least 1 club longer on irons. It mainly stems from my swing having in inbuilt "delofting" function.....my driver doesn't carry anything like the distance it should, but i can smack the living crap out of a 3 wood. Doesn't stop me over using my driver, natch.
