Light crop of silage, chop or not?

    I have a light crop of silage cut this morning. Contractor was saying maybe better not to chop it as bales would sag and all that. What do you think? Less bales and less cost, I know.:rolleyes:

    dont chop, we had that snag with our last crop. looks like the stacked bales fell from the sky

    i always chop, depends how u handle them for feeding i suppose, as long as i get the net off its ok for me as we only feed in a passage, if with bale slice then not chopped might be better. i hate to see long stuff being pulled in and trampled and wasted.

    wouldn't bother if it was short.

    How dry is it? We always chop it easier to pike chopped silage.

    Forks are for eating the dinner at the kitchen table, grapes are for making wine. :D:D

    Chop it. No reason not to. Make the bales hard enough and they won't sag.

    Sprong is the word you are looking for.

    A pike is what us Wexford boys used to put manners on them Red Coats and those gurriers from North Cork;)
