    Hi lads,

I have had since recently some issues with my car.
The petrol consumption was a bit higher so I cleaned throttle body+I got cleaned the injectors for a better fuel economy.Nothing has changed really.I also replaced thermostat(not related to fuel economy problem).
What I'm experiencing now is the fact that soon after I run the engine(after 2-4 minutes) the temperature sensor on my dashboard rise up to 1/2 and stays there all the time.I remember before I replaced the thermostat the coolant temperature raised gradually and slowly.
Is the problem with the coolant temp gauge or is it something more serious?
    (Suzuki Grand Vitara,2006,2.0)
    many thanks

    1. Faulty thermostat can have horrendous effect on fuel economy, especially on colder days. It can cause car to run below operating temperature, and therefore use more fuel. So by changing it you possibly help your fuel consumption problem a lot.

    2. Temperature sensor on your dash seems to be allright. With old termostat, which I assume was stuck open, it took ages for coolant to warm up, as it was going through radiator. With good thermostat, before engine warms up, thermostat is closed, and doesn't let coolant circualte through radiator, which makes engine warm up much quicker. And that's exactly why you can see on your dash temp sensor rise quickly. That's normal.

All seem to work good now, and let us now how it affected your fuel economy. IMHO considering your thermostat was broken and now you have a good one, difference in fuel economy should be very noticable.

    CiniO,thanks for your post.

The thing is that for a while I was running without any thermostat(don't ask me why) and the sensor behaved exactly the same-after short time the temp raised up to 1/2 and stayed.I'm not sure now what the problem is because no matter you have thermostat or not it's the same.

What about this what you said in your OP?

    1.original thermostat=temp raising slowly
2.without thermostat= warm up till 1/2 temp gauge
    3.new thermostat= the same as 2.

    sorry for confusing you:-)
