Recently moved into a hse. Tried to hook up RTE digital with my newish LG TV but no signal, Noticed that the aerial on roof had an amp but there was no power unit so I purchased a power unit and connected but still no joy. Any ideas? Dodgy amp maybe?Aerial seems to pint in right direction

Where in Cork are you? If you're in Cork city, can you see Spur Hill? It's 2 kms NW of the airport.

. . . Noticed that the aerial on roof had an amp but there was no power unit so I purchased a power unit and connected but still no joy.

There isn't necessarily an amplifier in the 'box' on the aerial mast: it could just be a passive diplexer for combining the UHF & VHF signal. VHF is no longer used for tv.

Mullaghanish must be your recommended Saorview transmitter?

Yeah Mullaghanish is nearest. Aerial and that of neighbours seems to be pointed in that direction. I am in Kinsale. Probably need to get an installer out to get on the roof and check it out. Thanks for the help.

The kinsale transmitter would probably be a better option for you, Mullaghanish can be tricky there.

OP, does the aerial cable go into the attic ? you could check within the attic if it is connected to the cable going down to your TV point or not, it might be connected to a different TV point.

Without knowing the precise locality it might be difficult to say for sure if the other (relay) transmitter should be used instead. What the previous poster says would be the case for Kinsale town, don't know if the OP is the town or somewhere a bit outside it.

Yeah straight up to the aerial out through the external wall. On outskirts of town but very low. I presumed I was just picking up where previous occupier let off.
    Thanks again

What model no. LG do you have?

Also, unrelated to the tv type but should get a mention, is the potential for co-channel interference from the Caradon Hill transmitter in Cornwall: a problem already noted in coastal areas served by Mullaghanish. Current weather conditions could give rise to this but would only be temporary. Presumably you've been trying to get this to work for more than a few days?

Also make sure your tv is set to ireland or it may not pick up the signal.

LG 26CS460? Could you post a photo showing where you have connected the aerial cable to the tv?

No room for any mix-ups there. Some versions of that tv have a 2nd connector for a satellite tuner.

Only other question I can think of is WRT the amplifier PSU & how you connected it but, any I've seen are clearly labeled & don't really leave room for error.

I don't know what Mullaghanish Saorview coverage is like in that area, but that aerial setup would have needed a good analogue signal to deliver anyway decent picture quality.

If your Tv shows signal strength then you could try manual tuning and see if you pick up anything. CH 21 for Mullaganish, CH 45 for Spur Hill or CH 47 for Bandon although it is unlikely to be this one. More than likely it is on Mulliganish and had an average analog picture but the signal isn't strong enough for Saorview.

Have a installer coming to get on the roof and check it all out. Will update then.

If your reception is from the Kinsale transmitter then the WB aerial in your picture is set for Horizontal polarization its needs to be set for Vertical and pointed at the Kinsale transmitter. The Installer calling out to you should cop this straight away. again that's if your signal is from kinsale.

That looks like a Eltin's Wood / Orchards estate chimney (I know my Kinsale chimneys! ).
If so , Mullaganish is correct , as there is a hill to the East of you shielding from Kinsale TX.
I would expect around 58 /60 db off of a decent Group A yagi 10 there making an amplifier unnecessary for a single outlet .
Amps should always be avoided these days unless strictly necessary .

Any update, surely you have it sorted by now?
I'd imagine all who took the trouble to put up a reply to this thread would like to hear what had to get done?
