Right, after buying the worst laptop ever, Compaq CQ57 3 years ago, which is a piece of pure crap, I really need to buy a new laptop for general browsing, downloading, music, videos and hopefully using it for part time college work. Not going to use it for games at all, other then the latest football manager game. I just want a laptop that is quick, doesnt freaking freeze for 20 seconds when trying to go from one webpage to another.

    Torn between two machines: http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_E1-571_1478283.html & http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_V3-571G_1318329.html.

Both have i7 and both have 8gb. Not too bothered about the size of the hard drive as I have a 500 external hard drive.

If anybody could give me some advise I would be grateful. I also want to get office and learn how to use excel and all that properly. I am that desperate that I was even looking at the college deal in Harvey Norman http://www.harveynorman.ie/index.php?dispatch=categories.catalog#products.view&product_id=43578. That comes with i3-3110 @ 2.4gh, 12gb ram and Microsoft Home and Student 2013(which I will need)

Is an i3, i5 or i7 suited for me. I am not sure if I am over spending or are these ok for me and to just pick one out of a hat?

The V series got the better looks, but 100 quid more for the GT 710M is not worth it.

You don't need MS Office to learn how to use a word processor or spread sheets properly, there are plenty free alternatives with the same functionality.

If you find a quad Core i7 within your budget then the choice is an easy one. The performance is light years ahead of any dual Core i3 or i5.
