My Laptop Will only work in safe mode

    Hi all,
I was using my laptop at work this week. I was trying to hook it up to a projector. It didn't work. The next time I tried to switch on the laptop it didn't work, only in safe mode. Even at that it takes ages to open. Is it likely that I could have gotten a virus from the projector?

Just to say I did try restoring the system back to the last time it worked. It worked once after that and let me in on normal mode. Then it went back to the safe mode thing.

I'm not getting a blue screen anything, just the black boot up screen.

    Any ideas,
    Thanks
    Claire

    You can't a get a virus from a projector.

Check you function keys, one of them (in connection with the Fn key) will toggle between external and internal display.

This is what I'd do if it wouldn't go into normal mode but I could get internet in safe mode.

In safe mode go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and check if you need updates. If so install them and reboot.
Then remove antivirus you have at the moment and download and run Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool
    Afterwards uninstall it.
Then download and Microsoft Security Essentials and run that full scan.

Windows updates should make sure your Vista is up to date and the other two will sort any crap you have on the lappy.

Btw, if you have any important documents on the computer, back them up first to a USB stick or something.
