I have some weanlings booked for Ennis on tuesday,it's also first day of ploughing.Would it be any disadvantage to sell on that date.I have got 4 bulls and 1 heifer, all over 12 months old and 350/400kgs

doubt it will make any odds, first time in years I have being there and many people seem to say the same. Loads of buyers go to marts on odd days thinking other guys will be gone off to such events leading to there been even more buyers at the mart:rolleyes:. put them trough the ring and if you dont like whats bid you know the road home

Thats why a lot of farmers are going to Gort or Sixmilebridge mart. In Ennis you could bring in Weanlings 6-7 months old and the are lumped into a pin of last years highly fed cattle who proceed to spend the day rising and f-acting on the young weanlings.
Plus the lottery system in Ennis mart for the pin numbers is a pure joke. The dealers get the lower pin numbers always. the lottery system picks between 1 and 35 so if you got pen 35 your fooked as they could be first or else last which means they are there for 7-10 hours as no matter what pen number is drawn first it always counts back to 1 then continues on from the number chosen
    Avoid

Been in there are good few times and I have had a random mix of pen numbers below 35. from 4 to 25.

Is there no age limit to cattle you can sell at weanling sales ?
Also, can you sell as weanlings if they are squeezed

I always come out best in kilfenora of all places!! It's a full day gone every time you go to Ennis and the draw is a balls of a thing, gort can blow very hot and cold I think, wouldn't bother bringing stock there any more.

You have to book in the weanlings in Ennis from Monday morning the week before. I did just that, so started ringing from 9AM. Had to try about 10 times or so until I got tru. I then ended up with a number like 28. how do you figure that. Sixmilebridge just ring in, no hassle and no waiting for long hours on the day.

No need to ring at 9 pak, you have the whole week to book them in till sometime on Friday before sale

Good, 7th pen of heifers and in the draw for the bulls. Heifers don't start till 1 though so you will still be most of the day there.
