Hi, I was wondering if anyone commutes Maynooth - Clane, and wouldn't mind me tagging along a few days a week?

I've done the route a few times on a Saturday, and its fine as traffic is fairly quiet, but I'm too scardey for during the week on my own.

    I work 9 - 6 if anyone can help?
I don't break any speed records, I'm more interested in getting there in one piece!

    Thanks :)

Which route do you take Jules? If you use the Straffan Road to Barberstown roundabout and then to Clane then you're on a very busy road, especially from Barberstown roundabout to Clane. Try the route below through Rathcoffey, it's much quieter and even slightly shorter..

Thanks vektarman, I was going Straffan Road - Barberstown - Clane. I just assumed the roads were better and it was a more direct route, but your route looks much safer.
    No excuse for me now
    Thanks :)

Cycle it at least once before you try commuting as some of the lesser roads out there are terrible. I'm talking from experience of getting punctures. If you cycle it you can have a look where you need to avoid bad surface/potholes etc

I do it a few times a week when I can (other way round though, clane->maynoth in the morning). I'd actually say the route via rathcoffey is just as ropey as barberstown->clane. You take the kilcock road for a bit and it can get a bit hairy near clongowes with traffic pissing it over that hill.

That said, the roads are grand quality, there's a shoulder for good bits of it and I've yet to get a puncture after a few months (touch wood).
