Seen a Mazda cx 7 yesterday and thought it looked very slick

I have seen feck all of them around, probably cause tax is dear and they are thirsty the only ones on carzone are the 2.3 litre petrol ones.

What do people think off the Mazda cx 7
Is this 2.3 litre engine version any good ?

It was only offered here in 2.3 litre petrol turbo and auto which didn't make it very popular. Being imported from Japan also made it very expensive. Poor fuel consumption, no diesel option and high Co2 emissions pretty much killed it off here in 2008. It was replaced by the CX-5 last year.

All the ones in carzone are manual.

I still think its a slick lookin machine.

It is and it handles well. It's just not what new car buyers wanted

The CX-5 isn't a replacement, CX-5 is smaller. If it was a replacement, it would be the 'new' CX-7. I have no doubt that if the CX-5 is as successful as Mazda hopes, we'll have a new Skyactiv CX-7 within a few years.

Technically it may not be but Mazda Ireland pushed the CX-5 as it's replacement here and the CX-5 is actually roomier than the old CX-7 too.

That engine is a little precious too. It needs special attention from new - from memory there's a requirement of an oil service during running in. I'd buy one of these only after doing some homework tbh.

There was a diesel in the UK for the last few years of it's life

    One on Autotrader

€1,200 to tax under Co2 rates though

Was at a 'demo day' in mondello about 4-5 years back where a cx7 was timed around the track against a high power rx8. It lapped just over a second behind,! Not bad for a Crossover as tall as that. 260 bhp.
Word of warning..,, if you're going to look at any for sale..., make sure that the engine is stone cold when u start it and listen for a harsh rattle on start up. If there's no rattle-all good mechanically generally. If it does rattle, even for only a second or 2,it will be an expensive repair. This will be the variable valve unit on the end if the camshaft failing, which is not unusual on a less well minded car.
They are also available as a manual option.

Exact same engine as the one in the MPS which you test drove ;)

It's a lot sweeter in the 6 than it is in the CX7 though, for whatever reason. I found it only OK in the CX7, where as in the 6 I really loved it. I'm not sure if they have different throttle mappings or something for the heavier car.

Or maybe it's just that the CX7 is a heavier car?? I've never driven the CX7 though so I can't really comment on it.

I drove a 2.3 cx something about 5 years ago, presuming it was a 7? Most unjeepy

I thought that, but I think there's a bit more to it. I thought I read something about the difference before, but can't find anything now.

Bought a CX7 last August & so far very impressed. Its a 2008 so still taxed under pre-emissions tax rules if registered prior to July '08This means € 998 per year for the 2.3. Very comfortable car on long journeys & so far very reliable. High spec with fully loaded cabin, leather, cruise, BOSE sound system, Climate, all electric etc. Suspension can be hard/harsh over bad roads as its set up for sporty handling & manual 6 speed box is terrible! When cold its very lumpy!

Not that its a surprise to me but poor on fuel consumption, averaging 26 mpg! Ooodles of power though so she's burning it well!
I'd agree with the above comments about the engine. Do not buy one that has (a) high mileage or (b) an incomplete service history.
