Hi folks, I´m heading to St Petersburg in Russia with the missus in a couple of weeks and I´m just wondering what´s the best currency to take with me, Euro or US dollars?
Also, anybody any tips on a budget? Going for 3 nights and I´m thinking around 400 to 500 euro should do the 2 of us ok.

I think Euro is better than dollars. As regards cost it's a really expensive city so be prepared! We were really surprised at the high cost of drinks and of eating out. It's a beautiful city with loads to do. I think you will have enough in your budget but like I say it can be very pricey.

Unless you're going over from the US you'd be doing two exchanges, one to dollars and the other to roubles. You'll be grand with Euros, they are pretty widely accepted abroad and in Russia.
Try to do your exchange in a proper bank as their rates tend to be better and there's less swindling going on. Main thing though is just to check the correct rate when buying/selling currency.
Some bureau de change only advertise one of their rates, the cheap one and swindle on the other one to careless tourists (like me). Won't be making that mistake again, that was in Bulgaria though.
