Like many flat screen Tvs mine does not have the sound quality of older generation Tvs. Neither does it have the phono external speaker terminals, it's the new generation digital outlet. How do I go about fitting discreet speakers, and are conventional speakers an option.
Apologies if this is posted in wrong location. All ideas welcome

I would agree, a sound bar is a good option. When I got a new LG tv last year i couldn't believe how poor the sound was. I bought a Panasonic soundbar in powercity for approx €200 and it's been well worth the money. Make sure it has a subwoofer. I know they take up more space but they give real depth to the sound. Have a look at whats available in powercity, DID, harvey norman etc. online and read reviews of any that interest you. I was going to buy an LG soundbar but all reviews of it were poor, hence the Panasonic.

Unfortunately the inexplicable race for ever more slimline screens means that the speakers are getting squashed down to useless pieces of equipment so a soundbar or AV receiver (amp with multiple HDMI inputs for cable/sat, Blu-Ray/DVD etc.) is a must for decent sound.

As part of your search you should post an enquiry over on the Talk to Richersounds forum http://www.boards.ie/ttforum/1105

Tell them your budget & see what they have to offer you. Sometimes they have special offers, end of line or ex display models & always give the best price they can to boards members.
