A couple of slow punctures

    Hi,I have a hybrid bike which I would use to commute to work and also on the odd errand. I have little or no knowledge of bikes and even repairing punctures.

    However lately I have got a couple of slow punctures/leak on my front wheel (I got a new tube after the first one).

    For example I pumped up my tyre there, cycled around 6km and had my bike locked for 30 minutes and the tyre was still fairly full of air - thats how slow my latest leak/puncture is.

    Some of the roads I cycle on are quite poor to be honest and quite bumpy with a lot of grooves.

    The tyres I have are Continental Ultra Race 23-622 (700x23C).

    I have a Bicycle Floor Pump and I noticed earlier that the nut on the Presta Valve is slightly bent so not sure if that is maybe leaking?

    I am just looking for a bit of advice as to whether I should get different tyres for my bike? As really I could do without these regular punctures and if there are maybe more suitable tyres then my exisiting ones.

    The punctures could be caused by a small piece of glass etc in the tyre that can be very hard to spot, as happened to me recently. Take the tyre off the wheel fully and check inside and outside thoroughly in direct sunlight if possible, as this will help you to see the glass easier. Hope this helps.

    When you fix a flat, only take one side of the tire off and ensure the tire does not rotate with respect to the rim.

    Then have a look at the tube. Put some air in if necessary to see where the leak is. This way you will have a general idea of where the problem is.

    Also, if the leaks keep coming from the same area, you know there's a problem as opposed to a random puncture.

    Check for glass or other sharp objects that may have just gotten through.

    Check the rim tape, make sure there are no sharp edges on the rim, around the nipples, or where the rim is joined/welded.

    Sounds like there is a persistent subtle problem, like mentioned above.
