I'm not running a 7990 but running two 7970's so pretty much the same. Its a good price but if your going to run eyefinity dont get it. Otherwise it seems a good deal.
I taught the latest drivers where fixing my micro stutter but they where not it was the overclock I did at the same time bringing the min frame rate of one card above 30 which stopped it. When I tried more intensive games you could notice it again once the card dropped below 60fps (which is 30 per card).
I'm sure it will be fixed soon but I would hold off until then if your using 3 screens.

Do you have vsync enabled? I doubt it's microstutter. You are probably dropping from 60 fps to 30 fps and going back and forth between the 2 which would give a similar effect.

You should download lucid virtu mvp and use the virtual vsync on that. That dynamically enables and disables vsync so you don't get those big frame rate drops if you drop below your monitors refresh rate.

Im using a single monitor 1440 and have a 7970.. Just need some more grunt to get the frame rate I want for bf3/4. I have the monitor oced to 100 hz and its silky smooth on medium settings for bf3 with vsync enabled but I would much rather 100/120hz at ultra..
I could get another 7970 and pay 300+ for it or get a 7990 for just over 500 and sell my 7970 for 200...its a tossup..

Where can you get 7990's for just over €500?

I guess it depends on your definition of "just over" but you can get this for about €560. This obviously might not be the card OP was talking about.

I don't think there would be much difference between the 2. Maybe less power consumption with the 7990. Also handy if you don't have a good crossfire capable board.

My experience with dual gpu cards is negative but the cooler on my old 4870x2 was a pile of crap. The cooler on that 7990 is a lot better. It still has to cool 2 gpus and 6gb's of ram + all of the vrm's though.

The mobo is old school asrock fatility pro P67
    2500k cpu.only 16x on the first lane then 8x
Case is a corsair air 540 so there is a bucket load of fresh air pumped in and out.
even more when my new fans land..
So the question is.. Do I get another sapphire 7970 (stock cooler..fooking loud) or sell the old one for 200 ish and get the 7990...or should I be looking at 780???

What brand one is it? I have heard they have a lot of problems with heat.

MSI,not much problems with heat.Actually runs pretty cool,70 playing BF4 on ultra and 30 at idle. Some coil whine but I wear headhpones.

I wouldn't get one tho.I played 450 for it and its performing horribly

Spec wise It should be handling anything you can throw at it. Got to be a fault in there somewhere. Have you tried it only on the on rig?

Have you been updating the crossfire profiles? Do you need those for 7990's even?

I have an MSI 7990 too. Haven't had any problems with it myself. It's just about enough card for 1440. The only game I can't max out is Far Cry 3.
