Does anybody know how much if any import tax, I would have to pay on something like the below.
say for example €5000 worth of good similar to that in the link

I'm not a company or anything, so how do I even pay it, does a tax man knock at my door or something , or are goods held in holding somewhere till I pay ?

    Good morning,

assuming that the items are coming from China and looking at the goods - as descriped in the link - I estimate you would be liable for 6.5% duty over the cost of the product plus the shipping / postage costs.

VAT would be levied at 23% over the combined total of the cost of the product, shipping/postage and duty.

If the shipment is intended to come by post or courier (e.g. DHL/FEDEX/UPS etc) the goods will be cleared on arrival by An Post or the respective courier company. There may be an administration charge of between € 5.00 and € 15.00 to process the entry and collect the Duty / VAT from you on delivery.

If the shipment is despatched by Ocean/sea freight I would urge caution. In the first place do not leave the shipping arrangements to your Chinese supplier. Agree Free On Board (FOB) Chinese port terms and make the shipping arrangements through an Irish based freight forwarder. If you leave it to the Chinese supplier you will get caught with an incredible amount of "arrival charges".

Feel free to post again or PM me if you require any further information

    Cheers,

One thing to bear in mind, if the items are branded (looking at the link, they are) you may not be able to import these, unless you are authorised to do so by the copyright owner of the brand. Customs might confiscate the items.
