I never got religion and I never got why women were deemed inferior to men in God's eyes, so the news of England or Ireland's first female bishop being appointed in the Church of Ireland really made me smile today. Well done to whoever makes these decisions!

Come on Mr Pope, it's your turn next!

Women are not inferior. However each has its own role to play. It won't happen in the Catholic Church as this is not part of the faith pass from Christ and the apostles.. That does not mean women are inferior.

Good for her, although The Methodist church has a female president, and due to a covenant between the Methodists and the Church of Ireland I believe she is technically equivalent to a COI bishop. Nonetheless, it's encouraging to see a sense of progress and unity on the part of the Church of Ireland. Their English counterparts have not yet been able to come to an agreement on the appointment of women bishops.

Every success to Bishop Storey in her ministry!

I think that it is good that a distinction may be possible finally, and some searching is in order.

For what one may call the good or no....I say this as a female who loves being one, and a feminist, etc so on. A true believer in the Priesthood, and the Holy Eucharist too.

There has never really been a time for the last few hundred years when there was so great influence due to a changing world, and so very much influence either due to a lack of perception to change and what fulfills or the message, and the C.O.I. or C.O.E. has become distinctive.

Distinctive is good. It helps I think to know exactly what one is searching for.

I've known Pat for about 30 years. certainly long before she was ordained.

I can't think of anyone of either gender I'd think could be better at the job.

There are hassles in the diocese that she's going to but the has such a great way with people and is so at ease with discussing faith issues that I have no doubt that she'll prove the sexist nay sayers wrong.

her husband is also ordained although he's been out of Parish ministry for a while doing other work for the church. his name is Earl Storey, and as the first ever Bishops' husband, HE deserves a medal. preferably the OBE which will make him.....

    wait for it.......

    Earlobe!!

    I'll get my coat.......
