Alright so basically I bought a car about two months ago

    Audi a4
    2004
    1.9tdi red I
    160,000miles

Every so often only when the engine was warm it would cut out on start up..I had it checked out and it has a crack in a piston ring some smoke comes out of the dipstick.the fuel filter was also completely blocked so I had that replaced..only after doing that now the car starts fine but can't get any revs with my foot fully on the acceleration, just for a few seconds and then I can get them and the car runs perfect.except still very Smokey when I hit the gas.so I brought it into another mechanic who changed the air flow meter and cleaned the egr valve.no smoke any more.but when he plugged it into his diagnostics machine nothing came up but when he plugged it into his vw one it came up the car was remapped,he reckons this is why it takes the car a few seconds to kick in or something.

    Any thoughts on this?

I'd recommend calling a good mapper and get their thoughts on it. I've no doubt if it's something to do with the map then it's something they've seen before

Joe Power comes fairly recommended in most VAG sites.
http://www.chippedire.com is his site. Worth a try anyway! Let us know how you get on

    Boost leak

    First thought but worth checking.

If its remapped have the map reset to stock to rule that also

Yeah I'm starting to think its not that because its not consistent, when I went to the car today and the engine was cold it started straight away and could get revs straight away..but half way through my night of delivering Chinese food it was difficult to start again..its only when the engine is warm..what is boost leak? Also the car started to be a bit Smokey again....NIGHTMARE!

Just reading a bit about boost leak there, and the mechanic mentioned I was missing an o ring off a rubber pipe I think on the turbo but not sure..this could be the problem?

If its leaking its a problem. Its also bad for engines and turbos.

That doesn't mean its your only problem.

I'd also get my injectors tested and start eliminating any possible issues.

I can move this to the DIY section where folks post who are troubleshooting there cars.

I'm not very good at doing things with my car myself but if you think I would get some good response then please do..thanks a million

Bump,do these sound like symptoms of boost leak? Car is Smokey again now and when I start it takes a few seconds until I can rev the acceleration.more so when the engine is warm..only very slight delay when cold.

You need to bring the car to a mechanic who is familiar with these cars and has the correct diagnostic equipment and equipment to do a boost leak test, no point in wasting your time and money throwing parts at it in the hope that you get lucky.

EGR solenoid could be shagged, EGR stuck open would explain the symptoms
