Hi ,does anybody know how can I get a student locker?I've skipped the general orientation and I regret it now.

Also ,do I have to bring a pad lock from home?

    Thanks

Queue up at the Arts Block on Monday. You don't need a padlock. The popular ones (Hamilton, lower floors of the Arts Block) go first so if you want one of those you may want to be there well before 9 a.m.

Are there lockers available in the Lloyd? Do I need to go early to get one there? 5th year in TCD and my first year getting a locker...

The Lloyd seems to be one of the least popular locker spots, it's a stroll in when the crowd is gone job.

There are lockers in the Lloyd, no idea how popular they are though. Best bet is to try and be there early, if not try and get one before Tuesday just in case. If there are lockers available, you can get one at any point during the first few weeks but it is first come first serve.

I got a locker yesterday in the Hamilton. I don't know why it says you should queue up at 7pm on Monday because that is a bit over the top.

I got a locker in the Lloyd last here and went in on Tuesday (was the only option though, but suits me well).

I've gotten a locker every year since I started Trinity and every year I think I'm going to use it and every year I don't. Don't see why there is such a big fuss to get them...

Turn up early, or else you'll be downstairs in East End. Happened to me two years ago, and again last year when I tried to switch. It's worth it to be in the Hamilton: it's 24hr access and close to the labs.

The queue normally starts in earnest at 8-8:30 and is long-ish until after 9:30-10. It's one of the offices on the ground floor of the Arts Block, through the automatic doors on top of the ramp, to the right the stairwell.

In the past, you'd get handed a form for a specific locker, then return later with the rent (20 euro) and deposit (20 euro). It might be slightly different this year (as in, pay straight away). At the end of the year (during May, after the exams) you either return the key (and get your deposit back), or renew the locker (pay another 20 euro and not have to queue again in September 2014). You can keep the same locker for several years as long as you remember to renew it.

Is the queue in the arts block for the lockers in Hamilton too? Like there's not a separate queue or anything? :)

Yep everyone queues at the arts block. Ive always got a locker where i want one...helps to have all your lectures in the Panoz.
I wouldnt bother queueing for one for the hamilton. if previous years are to go by youll have no trouble getting a locker in the building. Id take an extra hour in bed over having a locker a minute closer to lectures.

ok so if i just walk in around lunchtime will there still be lockers in the hamilton? i probably sound like a complete idiot but its easier to be an idiot online rather than in person :p

I wouldn't leave it that late.
I'd go in around half 9.

That said last year I got mine in the panoz basement (same building as Hamilton) a week later.

Took one look at the line and said no thanks. My question now is; do first years really need lockers? :p gonna see what the craic is later(ie have they any left, doubtful but whatever) but is it really gonna be that useful? For a first year like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,779 ✭✭✭A Neurotic

    Holy sh1t that's some queue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43 guineylab

heard people queued for 2.5 hours and didnt get a locker (not on top floor arts), last year was better since you just picked a locker sheet off the stack and could go back later in the day

I blame everyone encouraging people to queue up first thing. Its a self fulfilling prophecy, and its only going to get worse. Next year people will tell stories of the queue going past the campanile so even more people will queue from even earlier and the good lockers will be gone in even an shorter amount time.

Basically you lot are everything that is wrong with the world.

The queue went to the campanile???
    Madness.
Most of it is for Arts block lockers anyway. If your outside of that pop in tomorrow and take whats left.
    There'll alway be lockers available.
As well as that theres always people who rush to get a locker and then never use it. Find them and offer them 10-15 euro for it.

I paid 20 quid + 20 deposit for a locker in the Lloyd that won't even fit a bag. Ridiculous.

Got an email today about post grad lockers in the 1937, anyone know if they're any bigger?

    Dont know.

    How big is your bag?
I could get laptop, schoolbag and a gym bag in a small locker last year so yours must be massive

I've got a locker in the lloyd too small enough but still fits loads in. I always fit my bag in it which has a large enough laptop in it then my sports gear aswell. (although when I have both bags I take laptop out and put it in diagonally and squish the other stuff in)
