I saw this on the cinema listings earlier in the week and had never heard of it, so I decided to check it out last night. Written by, directed by and starring Lake Bell, it's about a woman who works as a vocal coach trying to break into the male orientated field of voice-overs, with film trailers being the biggest jobs you can get. It doesn't help that her father is one of the legends in the field:

I'm really surprised this has got more or less zero publicity yet also seems to have gotten a pretty wide release (I saw it in Cork but it actually played in Castlebar too, and they rarely get any smaller films in). On the other hand it was nice to go see a film I had pretty much seen or heard nothing about for the most part.

I found it to be a very funny satire of the film industry and really marks Lake Bell as one to watch in the future. There's also a really good supporting cast including Demetri Martin and Ron Freakin' Swanson, along with some amusing cameos from bigger hollywood names.

It's not perfect, the couple of romantic sub plots seemed seemed a little superfluous for one (even if they were affecting in their own way) and it does hit a lot of your typical "indie-comedy" notes. But that was only a minor quibble.

Unfortunately it only seems to have run for a week in Cork at least but if it's still on in your local it's worth checking out.

It's a great name. I instantly thought of movie trailers just from the title.

I guess they've taken a conscious decision to release this without any major publicity.

I saw it at Sundance London with a Q&A with Lake Bell earlier in the year. It's entertaining without being anything spectacular. I am interested to see what she goes on to do next though.

It's got pretty favourable reviews everywhere but I can't imagine it making much of an impact without proper promotion behind it.

Saw this today, I thought it was really enjoyable.

As regards the publicity, well, I was on my own in the theatre for the first 10 mins of the film. Eventually some stragglers arrived to make it a grand total of five viewers!

Granted, it's a Tuesday evening but that's still poor enough.

Slightly off topic but when I saw the title I immediately thought of this trailer

Out on DVD on January 21st, so it should be available from Amazon from that date.
