Just booked my car in for a test on the 29th of this month but now I'm wondering if I'd be better off waiting until October to get it tested as I'd get a cert valid for an extra month (until 10/14 as opposed to 09/14)?

There's no reason to do that. NCT certs run from the vehicle registration anniversary date regardless.

Cheers, it's been a while since I had to get a car NCT'd - I was under the impression that I'd get a cert for a year from the date of the test?
