I'm not sure if I've ever worked before

When I was 16 I was an exam-helper at my school and I think I paid tax on it, so does that mean I have a p45? Is there any way to find out? I now have a new job (age 18) and I'm not sure if I need to fill out the 12a or if I should just give my employer my PPSN.

Ring Revenue and they will confirm for you. Last thing you want in a new job is emergency tax

pretty sure you wouldn't have paid any tax on that - know loads of kids who do it over the years and they've never paid tax on it. they never applied for tax certificates or got P45s either. most you probably got was 400e max ? your tax allowances for the year would easily cover that. You should always ring Revenue yourself too and make sure your PPS number is registered against your employer (don't always rely on an employer doing it correctly)
