    Hi

I've been gaming on Xbox since 2003. I recently got sick of consoles and I'm interested in gaming on pc. Now, I just purchased an Alienware 18 from Dell. I'm still waiting for it to be delivered, should be here in a week.

I'm completely new to gaming on pc. I did spend a lot of money on this. I plan on playing Arma3, BF4, DayZ Standalone. Is this machine good for gaming and is it up to par with most desktops?

If you own one can you give feedback on how yours is, as not many people have these as they're silly expensive.

    Here's what mine will have.

    Alienware 18 BTX

    Overclocked 4th Gen Intel(R)Core(TM)i7-4900MQ processor (8MB Cache, up to 4.0GHz w/ Intel(R)Turbo Boost)

    18.4 inch (467.36mm) WLED FHD (1920 X 1080) TrueLife Display

    16GB Dual Channel DDR3L at 1600MHz

Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M with 4GB GDDR5 - NVIDIA SLI Enabled.

    Cheers

I switched from a PC to a laptop about 2 years ago. I used to play a lot of FPS games on the PC like F.E.A.R and Half Life.
I've only played BioShock on my Dell Studio but it played absoutely fine. I find it essential to use a gaming mouse.

You're paying a high price for "mobility". A third of that money is enough to build a PC that can play these games better.

Itll also weigh a ton and charger is like an old 360 power brick.

Hope your not planning on moving it.

I'm not planning on moving it. I bought a big desk and all the bells and whistles. I bought a Razor Deathaddor mouse, goliaths mat and astro a40 2013 edition headset for footsteps in counter-strike go!

I've had basic laptops over the years but I like them better. They're small and neat. My last one was the thinkpad.. that was ****e for gaming.

I'm off consoles onto pc now but I keep hearing negative stuff from people when it comes to laptops. I just prefer them to big towers. I bought this and I hope I can get max graphics and good frames per second on most mp titles.

You'll almost definitely get 3-4 years of high - high/mid end gaming out of that laptop and you may even get about 1/3 of your money back if you decide to sell it on after that.

I think though, that I can say with almost absolute certainty that your next gaming machine will be a desktop.

I have the extended warranty and 4 years accidental damage too. I'm not too worried about how much it will be worth in a few years. As long as I can keep up with most triple A titles and eventually when I can only run stuff on medium/low I'll most likely get a tower. But that's a long way away.
