JSA and Zero hour contracts

I have just accepted a job that is a zero hour contract. I know that if I work 4 days or more I am not entitled to any jobseekers but some weeks I could be working few hours, others I could be working 30+. Am I able to switch my claim to casual jobseekers?

If you feel that you will be working 3 days or less most weeks then switch your claim to casual jobseekers. Call into your local office and let them know and they will give you forms for your employer to complete. You dont say whether you are on benefit or allowance. Be prepared to have your current claim payment suspended until your casual claim is sorted.

I know this isnt the place to discuss zero hours contract but to me it seems a very unfair situation and from my own investigations seems to be a US based thing.
