Few questions about Social Welfare

Hi, I'm asking a couple of questions on behalf of my friend. She's currently on emergency social welfare, but wants to move to a different city before her proper dole comes through (might not be for six weeks) - would there be a problem with transferring her emergency payments?

Also, she mentioned that she has to pay back her emergency payments once her proper social welfare comes through - but as I got a lump of back pay when I signed on before (although this is two years ago), I said to her that surely this 'debt' is taken out of her back pay once this comes through?

    Any advice would be appreciated!

Have never heard of anyone having to pay back a CWO/emergency welfare whilst receiving payment and waiting for their dole to start proper, you're entirely correct on that point.

Regarding the move; at very worst, your friend'll have to make a fresh application, but I'm positive, once done, it'll be linked up in their system.

You never usually have to pay back supplementary welfare

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

If your jobseekers claim and supp overlap then any backdating from jobseekers is paid directly to supp welfare allowance as you cannot receive a double payment for the same period of time for jsa and swa.
