    Keep searching.

Otherwise try to find someone able to recondition it, but it'll be pricey too, I'm afraid. :(

Its only a 09 car maybe you may have some comeback from Toyota? Dont they give a 5 yr 100,000 mile warranty anymore? (engine gearbox back axel)

Tried Toyota. They said it was out of warranty. Asked for pics of everything which she provided. Pics of service book too. She had 7 done all up to date. The first 3 were done by a Toyota garage which cost her an arm and a leg each time so she started getting them done locally by a SIMI reg garage and book was stamped by them. But Toyota said because the last 4 services were not done by them they will not help.

I wonder what is written in warranty's T&C's?

I'd imagine warranty void on serviceable (or service dependant) items, but AFAIK gearbox is not being serviced by Toyota - all they check is fluid level.

But I may be wrong. :o

Will check that out. But they are pretty adamant they wont help out.

Warranty is 3 years, any free work done beyond that is goodwill, ie they don't have to do it but they might.
In this case they've said no so you're on your own I'm afraid.

Is it 5 speed or 6?

What exactly is wrong with the gearbox?

Are you sure it's not something like the coil pack...

Definitely not a coil pack - it's a diesel we're talking about here!

It may be possible to fit a gearbox from other model. Maybe.

VIN number would be handy to do some cross-reference thing. ;)

the bearings in the box went to smithereens and made ****e of the housing. it was a 5 speed box. got one today at a cost of 800e. ouch!

Hi, Ive had same problem with 08 auris, no help from toyota either, have been informed gearbox on auris and corolla from 07 onwards are very problematic, and that my replacement gearbox that i got in breakers in north may also go too. Do you know of anyone else with same problem?

No point in putting in a 2nd hand box without having it reconditioned first IMHO.
Diesels really are troublesome these days!

There would of been noise coming from the bad bearings a good bit before complete destruction. If the bearings were changed on time the gearbox wouldn't of been damaged.

If sourcing as second hand box I'd suggest replacing the bearings in it before fitting as it is an issue they suffer from so it might end up being a false economy by not replacing them.

Also most of the people I talk to with problems with this 5 speed/6 speed didn't know they need to change the gear oil!
    *facepalm*

Really so if I'd had serviced in Toyota garage it may not have happened cos they are aware gearbox oil change

I think on these even changing the gearbox oil won't prevent the bearings from failing.

so its a bearing fault in the gearbox? then you'd imagine if its a fault with toyota gearbox they would have to replace? its happened in other cars, why wont the recall them or replace them?
