Enbrel side effects

    Hi

I've been on Enbrel for the past four months for Rheumatoid Arthritis with brilliant results so far but over the past three injections, I've noticed a small rash which I've been rubbing a itch relief cream on to calm it down. It goes away after two days or so, but should I mention it to my doctor or consultant?

I don't want to be taken off Enbrel, it took them six months to agree to put me on it and it has allowed me to get off steroids.

    Cheers!

Hey i had something similar with humira i used to get a slight rash at the injection site, i did mention it to my doctor and was given a cream to help with it. My advice would be to show it to your doctor just incase.

Hi, I was put on Enbrel on Friday but my consultant never gave me a number for the people who deliver the sharps bin. I had an info pack when I was on Humira last year and I got an info pack with the number for the company that deliver and collect the Humira sharps bin, would you have a phone number for the Enbrel ones by any chance?

did your consultant not give you the enbrel book (filofax) - I don't have a number for the sharps bin, it was a form from the book that I had to post off to sharps and they sent out a bin. it takes a while, so my doctor was good enough to allow me dispose of the needles in his sharps bin until my bin came by courier.

and yes, will have to show it to the doctor in the hopes he will just give me a cream or ointment for it as opposed to taking me off the treatment.

No he didn't give me the pack. I got one for Humira last year in Galway. But things is Limerick regional seem very sub-par. I eventually managed to get hold of a number for the sharps bin and they're delivering one this week.

I've been on Enbrel for 3 weeks now and I'm getting a constant tingling in my left arm and fingers, I also feel a bit light headed and clumsy. Has anyone else experienced this?

do you inject in the same spot every week. I was told to choose a different spot every week.

so I inject my arms and legs.

and Yes, that clumsy feeling is part of the process. It lasts all day on Tuesday (my injection day) for me.

say it to your gp about the side effects your experiencing, I bit the bullet last week and said it to my gp about my rash/itch and he gave me a cream that clears it up - just remind them that it would only be a last resort to take you off the weekly injections.

I do it on a Monday night. I've used the tummy first and the front of each thigh since then. My gp's away until next week so I'll go see him then. I'm not due back to the specialist until the end of the month. Thanks.

Me again:D Since I've been using the Enbrel, about 7 weeks now, I have a site reaction within 24 hours. I get a large slightly raised bright red itchy area, about the size of the base of a mug. It's very itchy, red and hot, but not painful. I use a bit of steroid cream and it calms it down. The problem is that while the areas fade it seems to be taking weeks and weeks to go completely.

I mentioned it to my Derm last week and she didn't seem to know what it is. The best she could come up with is that I must be injecting it wrong, I'm not, I was on Humira last year and the nurses in Galway taught me how to use it before I started doing it myself. It happens when my husband injects my outer arms for me too.

Has anyone else experienced this. I'm being forced to go to see a nurse at the hospital for them to watch me use the Enbrel next week which is pi$$ing me off, as I know it's not the method of injecting thats the issue:mad:

    Hi

I was having the exact same reaction regardless of where I injected, it only started in week six for me and I mentioned it to my GP who confirmed it was just a local reaction. I didn't take anything at the time for it but decided to talk to my local health food store who gave me neem cream - I mix a tiny bit of that three times a day (on the injection day) with Eurax cream from the chemist and it kills the reaction within 12 hours.

I was in a rush this week to get to an appointment and left my injection out at home for about 1.5 hours and when I injected I had no reaction! So I'm starting to think its more about the coming out if the fridge and the 20 mins wait before I inject that could be the problem.

Like you, I was shown how to inject too, so give those creams a go and see how you get on

I can appreciate how the local reactions aren't pleasant but they're by no means serious. The thing with local reactions is the diversity of response as indicative in this thread alone. Local reactions (mostly) ameliorate as the body gets used to taking the medicine. The most typical common reactions to Etanercept (Enbrel), aside from injection side irritation, are; loss of energy; nausea/stomach upset; runny nose etc. These are self-limiting responses. But as always, if you feel you need to see the physician then that should always remain your primary concern.
