    LOL. Why so.

For this price point I'd prefer the Nexus over a chinese tablet. For the vanilla Android.

The Kindle Fire HD is not terrible.
I use it every day for games, email, browsing and books.

I don't like the Kindle Carousel launcher, but it's easy enough to put Nova or similar launcher on there.

It's the Kindle Fire (non-HD) is £99 on Amazon at the moment. The Kindle Fire HD is £159.

The screen on the Kindle NON HD is awful, the one on the nexus is better. Whatever others may say the kindle version of Android is annoying.

I would go with the Nexus for the better screen and stock Android, but its a slow device. But for 99 I guess its good value.

Is it not a 1.2 GHz quad-core? How is it slow?

Nexus is rated the same if not better then the ipad so I'd go with that.

Its a known problem with this model, after using it for a while it slows right now. Now I am talking a year. A recent update was supposed to sort it out but it hasn't for me. I have both of these devices on my desk right now.

The Nexus is by far the better of the two, and for the money in question its good value, but if you really want a good tablet experience save up and get something newer/higher spec, but I suppose thats always true.

If you reset it, wouldn't that get to the original speed?

I was just thinking the same - every Android device I've owned slowed down after months of installing and un-installing apps. A wipe every so often keeps it fresh.

The slow down was due to a problem with the memory and OS on models between launch and October last year.
There is a way to fix it which I posted in the Android forum some time back:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=85330502&postcount=823

Anyone buying a Nexus 7 since October 2012 would not have this problem.

The Nexus is very fast in my experience after a year and no resets.
One con worth noting, however, is that it doesn't do wired video out (dlna works though). So no display port or mini hdmi etc.
