There's rumors of a new model in the works - I'd expect to see quiet a few offers over the next month or so.

It's the ATV 3. The 2 is long gone.

It might be worth waiting on the new model, especially if Apple open it up to third party app developers.

Saw the add the other day, it's http://www.adverts.ie/ipad-accessories/ipad-iphone-or-ipod-component-av-cable/3399015

Looking at his comments I think he's 2 or 3 left.

Quick question: Is the currently unjailbreakable (amirite?) ATV3 any use at all for streaming movies I already have on an iMac to my telly over wifi? I have a cheap little Sumvision thing that plays files off an SD card but it often drops the connection (via HDMI) to the TV. I often thought that an ATV would surely integrate perfectly with what we have but most of the bumph just harps on about iTunes, Netflix and Youtube.

Not the same thing at all
You need an iPhone, iPad or iPod to hook that up so thats going to be a couple of hundred quid at least

They did it with the iPhone. It's inevitable they'll do the same with the Apple TV IMO. iOS has become a major gaming platform.

To be clear, I'm talking about an App Store, not a free-for-all.

Yes, through Air Play, you map them to your itunes folder and as long as they are in the correct format (use handshake or maybe milkshake) then done.
