Hi I heard off a friend that you could did your test in the North you could get a licence which is valid in the republic without having to spend loads on driving instructors? Has anyone tried this?
    Thanks

    No, haven't heard that.

Anyway, doing the test will be easier if you do a few lessons first. The instructor will show you some things you will have to do on your test to pass it, even though you don't do them now, nor you will after you get your licence. :)

Firstly you'd need a NI address to apply for your provisional.
Then you'd need to pass your theory test up there.
Then you'd have to pass your hazard perception test up there.
Then there's taking lessons up there too.

That's a fair bit of traveling to try and save a few € which, by the time you do all that you probably won't.

Why not support the economy in your own country?

Does the N restriction up North apply if you drive down here?
