Holy smoke popped into Zara today & came out feeling FAT. Am a size 14 on top - average sized Irish women I'd have thought but honestly all three tops I tried were TIGHT!!!!

    Depressing!

I know their sizes are on the small side but this is ridiculous.....

Spanish brands tend to be smaller fitting, Irish women tend to have bigger boobs so sizing can be awkward. I'm a size 10 but have 34E boobs, so I avoid Zara.

Spanish sizing I'm afraid :( The average size in Spain is much smaller than in Ireland and their S/M/L is a lot tighter than what we use normally.

Some of their stuff is ok size wise though, I've gotten dresses, skirts and jackets from there which were somewhat true to size (most were a Medium).

But at the same time, I barely was able to zip up an XL leather jacket last year even though I was buying Small tops next door in H&M.

I can also confirm Zara sizes are smaller.

When I shop for mens jeans I find that arent designed for muscular tights or legs. You need to be just skinny.

Zara sizes are probably smaller. In general their cut isn't exactly made for curvier figures. I'm size 12 and have hard time finding trousers that fit me properly. Size 12 are often too small and 14 are too big.

That being said my current favourite pair of jeans are from Zara. Sometimes you just have to try a lot of stuff.

Last week I brought five pairs of their jeans into the dressing room to try on. All were marked as the same size. Only one of them fit me! All the rest were too small. Their sizes are all over the place!!

I find River Island the same. I'm a 10/12 with a small enough waist but have ended up in size 14s before! I don't trust any stores sizes anymore!

You have to try on everything everywhere these days. Zara is a no go for me at the best of times, but even the old reliables are beginning to become less reliable when it comes to sizes

Mango seems to be better for me, I just have to go a size up but their stuff does fit me better. Except their trousers, no matter what size I am. Which is exactly opposite to Warehouse. I'm swimming in their trousers and same size dress will be tight on me.

I was just coming on here to ask about Zara sizing. I saw a lovely winter coat on their website that I want to get but wasn't sure if i should get a small or medium. I am a petite size 8 (no hips or boobs!) but I do like to wear chunky jumpers in winter too...so I guess medium would be best if they are already small fitting?

I am similar to you and don't find their sizing too small. However, I find their clothes very long.

I'd go for small. I'm size 12 and medium fits me more often than not. That being said Zara is the one brand I need to try clothes on to see how they fit.

I would be similar size and shape to you and find their clothes fit fine. In fact their size 8 jeans are a big baggy on my bum and I would consider myself a 'big' size 8, closer to a 10. Medium would probably be too big, I'd say go with a small.

Thanks everyone. I'd be a small size 8, bordering on a size 6 so I guess I'll go with the small size. Thanks for your advice!

Yeah Zara is def small, I'm a small to medium in most mens shops and im in decent shape and I'm a large in Zara and I'm a pretty small guy so I would guess womens sizing is also small fitting

I find Zara and Bershka to be very small, size wise.

One thing I hate about Zara and Topshop in particular is that their clothes are designed to flatter someone who is a size 6-8, and then they just mass produce them in larger size. I find, especially with Bershka, Topshop and Zara that even the stuff that fits me is rarely flattering or good looking.

I find Zara to be grand size wise  Don't get why everyone says they are so small!

I'm the same, I'm long legged so I love their trousers, same as Mango. And I'm a 32e as well

I'm a small in most shops and a small in Zara is fine for me too, Benetton get on my snot as I'm an extra small in there, they seem to do some weird vanity sizing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,624 ✭✭✭✭meeeeh

It's not about vanity sizing. As someone said it's lack of size appropriate sizing. I have trouble getting a jacket that fits properly over the chest and I'm 34c. As I said I don't mind going size up in mango because I know the stuff will fit me properly and it won't be loose every where else and too tight over the chest.

That being said Zara is a bit more upmarket version of Pennys. They have extremely quick turnover of collections and quality of their tailoring and materials often suffers.

In Benetton (when I bother going there) I'm usually 44 which would be my usual size for other Italian brands too.

I get most my clothes in Topshop and Zara, for that exact reason! They are made for my shape. But then in many places (Penneys, New Look...most of cheapest high store shops) the clothes don't fit me at all! Just not suited to my shape.

Maybe all the other pairs of jeans were cut differently so that they flatter other peoples body shapes, if they all fit you and flattered your body type then they would have no jeans that suited anyone elses shape.

I think it's other shops that are actually sizing their clothes too big. I'm a size 6 in River Island but in a lot of other places even the smallest sizes don't fit me, and I'm not exactly skin and bones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,624 ✭✭✭✭meeeeh

Sizing on high street is done to meet demand. As we are getting bigger the sizes are getting bigger. But for Zara I honestly don't think their sizes are so small, they just don't suit the body type around here.

My cup size is B or sometimes C and I used to wish my breast would be smaller. I always had problems with buttons popping on fitted blousesand it was almost impossible to find a bikini bra. Most of the brands would be Italian, Spanish or French. I have no such problems with UK, German or Scandinavian brands.

I'm a size 10 but 34H and I can't even get Zara XL over my chest.

I wear a few items from Zara children's range and from their TRF range and would not tend to have problems, the main range does not tend to suit as well. I am very curvy but only a small size.

Im an XL in zara and a Medium in other shops..That says it all, they skimp on material for profit margins, and they are too expensive.Even pennys is better than them i think!

Love the fit in zara .. used to work there for a few years in cork store . Most of the collections are small sizing for your typical irish body frame .
