Hi there I have applied for a few VEC vacancies on their dublin city and county website. The closing dates are today and friday. Has anybody experience with vec applications? How long is it usually before/if you hear back?

Good luck, and boy will you need it.Any advert that states the following,'equal opportunity employer, canvassing will disqualify etc.,' is usually false ,the jobs are usually gone and you may be still called for interview and then you will see gobsh1tes of councillors and hangers on and sympathisers (who do not know a single thing about teaching and less about education!) sitting there on the interview panel collecting their expenses, they are usually well fed and watered for the day.Do not expect to hear back anytime soon and if you do be prepared for the 'you were not successful letter....That is the story with VECS down the country in any case.Any jobs that come up are usually filled by cronyism,a nod and a wink etc in good old Ireland!

This is the story in SOME VECs. Not always someone elses fault have to look closer to home sometimes.

It depends on the job really, if it is something that there is a sudden illness they may have to interview quickly, it could be a maternity position coming up after mid term so not as much of a rush, or they could be several other things.

It just depends on what they have to fill really. Sometimes can be quick other times they may take a few weeks

We have jobs for three, maybe four people currently waiting on people to come from those interviews. They will all be people new to the school.

We'd be hoping for them to start ASAP.

Thanks spurious. Fingers crossed for me as I can start asap too ;)

I'm afraid whether you like it or not, there is a serious amount of corruption about. I have recently applied for two jobs with VEC's and have not been shortlisted for either as both jobs were worded specifically for people who were already doing them, even though they were not qualified. I also thought you needed to be registered with the teaching council in order to be appointed by a VEC now, however this is also not the case as the essential criteria was train the trainer while I am registered with the teaching council and have a teaching qualification in the area they were advertising. I also have 10 years experience of delivering and coordinating this subject.. but apparently I didn't meet their criteria because I didn't have a level 6 train the trainer qualification? A Masters and post grad in the subject area doesn't count...
Its who you know alright, and also where you were educated. I have previous experience of not being shortlisted for any jobs I applied for in Ireland, but I was educated in the UK. I always meet the criteria, but never get shortlisted... Only reason not educated in the right country.. Corruption of the highest order... and Government are of no use, contacted the department of education and go no response from them... Useless..

If you have been refused on 10 occasions with all your qualifications as discussed in another thread with basically the exact same posts 6 months ago then have you considered there is another problem with your applications.

You can't seriously be claiming that on 10 occasions you weren't even short listed due to a relation of someone getting a job.
    Presumably in different vecs

There is nothing wrong with the application. I requested from the HR some reasons for not being interviewed, and they apologised and invited me in for interview (alone), which was just a farce, and then they advised me that I was unsuccessful. I requested a breakdown of the points allocation and noted that they had not given me points for my Masters, for previous experience and for having practical experience of working in this area. This amounted to over 20 point which they had just neglected to add in. I have been refused interview based on the fact that apparently I can't drive, although they didn't actually ask me if I could or not. On another occasion I was not short listed for a job which the principal who retired the week before had applied for and given to herself.. I also was not shortlisted for a job, which was advertised with closing date the Friday, and appointment made on the following Monday.. with no interviews being held. Corruption as I said..

Less of the unsubstantiated allegations, thanks.

Please don't drag up old threads to bang the same drum.

    Hi Spurious
If you would care to read the post again, there is nothing unsubstantiated about what I have said, I have the paperwork and emails to proof everything I have said and more, I haven't even mentioned half of it...
Just a question whats the point in a forum if we are unable to state the truth on it in response to peoples queries? Obviously the drum needs banging again if I am still experiencing the same problems that these people were speaking about in 2008! Nothing will ever change if we have people continually covering up or explaining away whats going on. Its not just the VEC its everywhere, I work at the moment in a college (part time) and if you pull up the staff register every second person has the same name, or is married to or related to each other. Now i'm not brilliant at maths, but on the law of averages that just won't happen! Block me if you like, that's why this country is in the state it's in, nobody is allowed to speak the truth or they are black listed... I'm speaking from my experience and have paperwork and evidence to substantiate every word I have said, if you don't like that then I'm sorry, but in my opinion, and I am entitled to one whether you like it or not, Ireland is the most corrupt place I have every lived!
