    Hi everyone

I tried downloading the Dublin Bus app from my Smartphone but when I search for it, it says NO RESULTS FOUND.

I went to Dublin Bus' website & it says to install the app via Google Play on my phone. But I can't because when I search for it,it says NO RESULTS.
    Any advice guys?

My phone is a Vodafone Smart.

    Thanks

You only see the apps that are compatible with the version of android on your device.

There also an app called "next bus Dublin free"

OP, bite the bullet and install the paid version of Next Bus Dublin, on the Google Play Store there's feedback from 34 users with ratings of 31 x 5* (stars) and 3 x 4* which speaks for itself. The developer Stephen McBride is a mod over on the Android forum, I use the app all the time and never use the official DB app.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nextbus.dublin.pro

You'll only get good apps with ongoing maintenance if you reward the developer for his efforts by dipping into your pocket and paying him.

Are you just searching just for 'dublin bus'? I tried from my phone now and it came up first thing, top of the list. The title and subtitle are both 'Dublin Bus' so don't use any other words in your search.

Try the Real Time Ireland app. It includes buses & trains.

I'm not a mod (yet) ;) but thanks for suggesting my app! There's also the free version as well OP if you'd like to give that a try. It does sound like whatever phone your on may not be compatible, hence no results. What model is it?

    :(
I've tried all your links but it says YOU HAVE NO DEVICES. YOU HAVE TO CLICK THE WHITE MARKET ICON ON YOUR PHONE.

I've done that and I'm signed in using my Google (GMail) account.

    Maybe my phone's not compatible?

I'm using a Vodafone Smart phone (not great but I am saving for a better phone)
I can't seem to get any of those apps on my phone ;(

    This is my phone: http://crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/vodafone-smart-android-phone-is-cheap-as-chips-and-contract-free-50003764/

I'm sorry to sound all noobish but I havent downloaded any apps to this phone before because it sat in its' box for a long time before I started using it.

Hmm that's strange, your phone should be good enough to run the app. Tell you what OP, send me your email address via PM and I'll email you the application file with instructions on how you install it.

It would be if I was due to be in Dublin in the next few months :D

The 10.2 update is supposed to be bringing more improvements to the runtime to include APIs from Jelly Bean.

The problem is that app is fairly tightly integrated with Google maps and that has to be stripped out in order for the porting tool to work. Also, I've ported 2 apps already and the download numbers have been pathetic so it's really not worth my time.

Smacky, thanks for your email but it didn't work.

I updated my software and got Google Play on my phone but loading anything took forever.

Thinking it was a fault, I visited my local Vodafone shop today and was told "your phone is over two years old so it's slow".
I said "It shouldn't matter what age it is, I can't even load or install anything. Surely the point of any Smartphone is to be able to install an app?

She just said my phone was too old and that was it.
So unfortunately I have a phone that's basically worthless.

I know things are constantly updated and that yes my phone isn't up-to-date but I expected it would at least give me the ability to use apps

Sigh, looks like I'll just have to save up and buy a better phone.

Think it might have been your rep that was worthless. That said, the fragmentation of Android because of the gatekeeper phone makers and telcos is a problem and Cyanogen type mods are not the answer. One of these days the fellas in the EU consumer protection bureaux should take an interest in the notion that phones "only last two years".

No worries fussyonion, you gave it a good shot! - hope you get a decent phone soon.

You can still get Dublin Bus real time information easily enough without the app.

Just bookmark www.dublinbus.ie/rtpi and enter the stop number there.

I'd definitely be a paying customer for a Dublin Bus App for BB10.

Unfortunately folks like you are few and far between so the numbers really aren't there to justify spending my development time on it. Also with Blackberry's dismal results for the last quarter I wonder how much longer they'll really be around...

I think they'll survive, but it won't be down to us BB10 loving Dublin Bus users.

smackyB I read somewhere that one could switch google maps to Open maps and then port the app. Would that change still require too much development time?

How many downloads did you get for your train app?

BlackBerry 10 is just starting to take in enterprises. My company here in Dublin just upgraded to BES10 and all BlackBerries they buy now will be BB10.

Yep, anything that moves away from Google Maps is going to take some effort to implement.

The train app has only had a handful of downloads, though only the paid version is available as the BB porting tool didn't like the ad server SDK I use.

I've ported a free Irish app that has over 100,000 downloads on the Play Store and seen less than 50 downloads on Blackberry so the market really isn't there at the moment.

I think with the general trend of bringing your own device to work I can't see BB10 gaining any major traction.
