Dandruff won't go away

Hi there. Can anyone give me some advice on dandruff.

I've tried numerous shampoos at this stage. Have tried Nizoral and now I'm trying oilatum but apart from the cooling sensation, it doesn't seem to be doing much to get rid of my dandruff.

I use a small bit of blue wax to style my hair but I've read that this shouldn't be causing me any problem. Anyone know of some wonder product I should be using ?

Netrogena has a shampoo for dandruff, you can find it in dunnes. It works nearly after first wash. It is normally packed in a cardboard window box, white with blue printing letters.

Used to be a problem for me- I found adding olive oil to a lot of my cooking really helped. I had tried many different shampoos too- and while they were pleasant- they were useless. Diet- and especially adding olive oil to a lot of things- helped me.

Have you tried Capasal Therapeutic shampoo (not the herbal one)? I found it great at reducing flaking and it eased my itchiness a lot too. It stinks, which is the only downside (it's coal tar based), and not all chemists stock it, but it's well worth a try.

You are only allowed to use it once or twice a week but I found it eased my itchiness from the first use and reduced flakes within about a week.

I barely have to use it at all now, only if I have a flare up. Whether that's due to the shampoo or changes in myself I don't know, but I'm not complaining!

For topical, I would never go with products when it comes to dandruff (I'm not one of those hippies either).

100% Aloe vera gel will 100% sort it out. If you don't want to order that, try honey that you might have at home, guarantee it'll be sorted in no time.

I used to have abhorrent redness on my face, not since using aloe vera gel. It and honey can sort these things out.

I have dandruff problem too. Would Ng interested to use something natural. Just wanna know how to use the honey? Sorry it sounds silly, but do you mean apply the honey when washing hair? Or drinking / eating a lot of honey?

Also, I will also try the olive oil as well. I basically consume very very little oil in mg diet.

No I mean, say before or after shampoo (or no shampoo at all), just put a dollop on your hands and rub it onto the scalp/area affected. Leave it for a few mins and the water completely rinses it off on it's own.

I think with the amount people shower these days, a lot of shampoos are just too much on the skin, but I remember back in the day with shampoo the important thing is to make sure ye get it a good lather, a long rinse and when toweling the hair dry, really rub the towel to remove any excess. A lot of dandruff is actually shampoo residue, which irritates and dries the skin.

I just steer clear of shampoo, sounds bad but other things (like honey, a natural anti-fungal) and water do a good job. I would guess I'd get a bit of dandruff if I used shampoo once or twice a day every day.

T-gel shampoo works a treat for me, from the very first use. You don't get it in all the supermarkets but available in pharmacies.

I used to get dandruff too and I went through so many shampoos and conditioners trying to get rid of it and find one that didn't irritate my scalp. I currently use Burts Bees mango shampoo and conditioner and havent had a problem since I switched onto it.
I also think personally that certain contraceptive pills used to make it flare up on me so if you are female it might be worth looking into this.

Hi everyone I find that Selsun that you get in Boots works for me, the 100ml costs approx 6 euro. Best of luck everyone.

Had same problem for ages, tried nizoral etc without much result. Then a hairdresser told me it was I just had very dry and sensitive skin rather than dandruff so nizoral etc wouldn't be much help. Recommended head and shoulders itchy scalp as it treats dry skin, only thing that worked.

Dercos (from the Vichy brand) worked wonders for this long-time dandruff afflictee.............

I had really bad dandruff, to the stage were I basically had big scab things on my head, and I tried everything, none of theshampoos worked.

What finally did it for me was Jojoba oil. You can get it in health shops, just pour some into your palm and massage it into your scalp before bed. My dandruff is 100% gone. Initially I had to use it every day, now that its cleared its just a once a week job. Its really good for your skin, I can' recommend it enough, I wish I tried it years ago, it would have saved much expense, and misery.

I suffer on and off with dandruff and it's terrible, I find laying off all styling products and using a sulphate free shampoo helps to clear it initially. I use head and shoulders now all the time and even though everyone says its crap I have to say it keeps my scalp totally clear

Rinsing hair with cider vinegar about once a week gets rid of any dandruff/sebum issues for me. I put it on wet hair in shower and leave it for a few minutes then wash as normal.

selsun works...then use it once every two to three weeks to keep the dandruff away.

My daughter when she was younger had really bad dandruff to the point where when she scratched her head where it flaked away it would leave raw patches. We tried everything. All kinds of everything oil capsules, olive oil on her hair (a nightmare to get out), honey, vinegar, even her own pee (it's supposed to work for psorasis), and all the medicated and then 'natural' shampoos. Nothing worked or even improved it. Eventually rooting through the shelves in Boots yet again I came across a Head & Shoulders shampoo in a larger than normal dark blue bottle - Intensive Care for Severe Flaking. She gave it a try. Major improvement after one use. Her dandruff had disappeared after three uses A miracle after three years of itchy, scratchy and flaky misery. Boots stopped doing it a few years ago but it's carried in all the larger Tescos. It's €7 something a bottle. She doesn't use it all the time now, maybe once every couple of weeks (and she washes her hair every day).

Yes head and shoulders is the best of the shampoos.

I'm not sure about that. La Roche posay kerium shampoo is best for me but everyone is different.

I'd say different things will work on different people depending what's the underlying issue causing dandruff. What helped me was putting a bit of oil(like olive oil) on the scalp itself, massage it in and leave even overnight. Or it might be easier to remove if you combine it with some conditioner and leave it for a while(for one hour or so).

La Roche posay is very good Iv dandruff and oily hair so put on that brand suitable for me once to few times a week and put on normal shampoo for oily hair and anti dandruff shampoo every other day I wash my hair. I find washing the hair everyday is not good for it causing more dandruff let it be natural and wash hair every second day.

Get rid of the blue wax.
Used to use that as a teenager and it gave me a terribly itchy scalp. Stinks too

A poster mentioned about using loads of olive oil in diet. I followed this and found it quite works for me. Also now when I rinse my hair after applying, I rinse for much longer time just to make sure all the shampoo is completely washed off and I don't use conditioner anymore.
