Driving over ramps - 2nd or 3rd

    Driving on a long road with ramps would you generally go down the whole road in 2nd or 3rd? Or would you drop to 2nd and then build up to 3rd again etc?

    Unless it's a particularly harsh ramp, I'll do it in third. It really depends, I asked my instructor about it before and he said you don't absolutely have to go down to second, it depends how bad the ramps are.

    2nd.

    1st if it's a nasty ramp.

    If you go in 3rd, it will take forever to build up speed afterwards.

    Depending on severity of ramp and the size of car but if it can be taken in 3 safely then do so

    I don't think about gears TBH - it's about adjusting the speed of the car for the bump, and having the engine comfortable with that speed.

    The correct answer is 1st ................... or 2nd or 3rd or 4th.
    It depends on the severity of the ramp; height, steepness and wether it is a split ramp or full width.

    Third for the most part. 2nd gear for those steel ones.

    Instructor told me that 3rd for the speed bumps in the middle of the road that you can position your wheels either side, 2nd for bumps that go the whole way across the road! I suppose it depends on your car though!

    It's the speed that the car is travelling at over the ramps and not the gear.

    It all generally depends on the ramp, and car driven.
    Some ramps are OK to go by at 30 - 40 km/h so in that case you might be ok in 3rd.
    Some other ramps might require you to slow down to 5km/h or less, and then you might need to put 1st.

    I generally slow down in front of the ramps to minimum, so most often I put on the 1st gear.

    Depends on your suspension. If it's new'ish; you'll probably get away with 3rd on most of the bumps. If you're suspension is old, or frankly none existant, crawl over on 2nd.

    Crawling over on 2nd is also applicable on those severe short one foot long black n yellow ramps.
