Early Prices for reserve runners & Rule 4?

Looking at the Kerry National, once again I notice more and more bookies are pricing up reserves. So when they make the line up, I presume the price is not subject to a Rule 4 with the withdrawal of a runner?

Also, where horses are priced up the day before (as either a declared runner or a reserve) is a Rule 4 applied with any withdrawals.

btw..I'm on JP's Wise Oscar @ 14/1 ew..now about 8/1 at best

No Rule 4 should apply.

Importantly for people who backed others before the reserves were put into the market they will get a Rule 4 but the result will be settled without the reserves.

So if you the horse you backed comes 2nd to one of the reserves then you will be paid out as a winner.

This could be particularly relevant in this case as Wise Oscar is now fav.

Be careful I can't remember which bookie but someone was on here giving out that they weren't paid out when second to a reserve and I think you're only paid out if second to a reserve if that reserve was priced up.

If you back a horse the night before and there are withdrawals (not a reserve) then there will be R4's price dependant

Other way round surely - if the reserve is priced up he is part of the market you're betting into. A priced up reserve has to pay out as the only winner - (UNLESS there is some form of once off concession by a particular bookie which was the subject of a thread on here a while back).

If the reserve wasn't priced up then effectively he wasn't in the race when you had the bet and 2nd to him should be paid out the winner.

thanks for the info. common sense, but I might have forgot that a 2nd back and only beaten by a reserve that wasn't priced up at the time would pay out as a winner.
